The village of Grindelwald in the Bernese Oberland lies embedded in a welcoming and snowy hollow, surrounded by a commanding mountain world. The Eiger north face, Wetterhorn Moench and Jungfrau are just a few. This mountainscape and the numerous lookout points and activities make Grindelwald one of the most popular and cosmopolitan holiday and excursion destinations in Switzerland, and the largest ski resort in the Jungfrau region. The resorts apres-ski ist just as exciting as the days activities with plenty of bars, night clubs, concerts and folklore evenings.
Over 45 mountain railways, aerial cableways, chair and ski lifts take skiiers to 200 kilometres of pistes with gentle runs to more challenging ones like the Lauberhorn downhill race course. For a special excursion one takes the highest rail road in the world to the "Top of Europe" at Jungfraujoch for a scenic lunch at 4158 m.
Cross-country skiers and toboggan riders also are well catered for in the vicinity. And there are over 220 kilometres of winter walking trails in Interlaken, Beatenberg, Habkern, Wilderswil and the Jungfrau region.
